- Keep records
Keep copies of medical records, receipts and other expenses related to your injuries. Also keep track of time missed from work and how your injuries affect your everyday activities.

- Know that Uber insurance may apply
Rideshare collisions may involve different insurance coverage than a typical motor vehicle accident. Nova Scotia has a specific insurance framework for Transportation Network Companies, including Uber or Lyft.
When a passenger is being transported, the applicable coverage can include (up to) $2 million in third-party liability insurance, as well as ‘Section B’ accident benefits (to assist with treatment needs and income loss if you’re injured) and uninsured automobile coverage.
The insurance that applies will depend on the circumstances of the collision.
- Be cautious with insurance companies
You may be contacted by an insurance adjuster following the collision. Be careful about providing recorded statements or signing documents before you understand your rights and what you are agreeing to.
- Get legal advice
If you were injured as a passenger in a ride share, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and related losses, and likely entitled to Section B accident benefits.
